Sometimes you just need to get out of the hustle and bustle of the City of London and what better way then going for a walk through Richmond Park and looking out for the wildlife.
The park covers 2,500 acres being the largest of the Royal Parks in London and is home to Red Deer and Fallow Deer, Fox, Rabbit, Shrew, Mice, Vole, 144 recorded species of bird, and many different kinds of flora and fauna. In 1625 Charles I brought his court to Richmond Palace to escape the plague in London and turned it into hunting grounds in London.
From it's highest point at the King Henry's Mound one can see all the way to St. Paul's Cathedral 10 miles away, thanks to a telescope, the unobstructed specially maintained avenue across London.
Can you see it? |
Once we finished admiring the view we stopped for a spot of tea at the Pembroke Lodge and then set up a game plan. We wanted to see some deer! At first the thought was that we'd have to head more into the interior of the park to see any kind of wildlife, turns out not to be true. We spotted deer relatively easily and along the main road that ran through the park.

Oh it is so cool having gotten to talk you in London and now read your blog. What a golden opportunity. This day out looks awesome and what a great way to end the day. When we go out for our country walks we love to finish at the pub for a pint.
ReplyDeleteEnding any full day with a pint at a pub is okay in my books! (Also, no, I'm not on twitter yet)
DeleteAlso I forget...are you not on twitter yet?
ReplyDeleteRichmond park is great. I walked the trail that goes around the edge of it this summer. And there really are deer running around everywhere!! :-)
ReplyDeleteI was really surprised that they were indeed everywhere! I thought it would have been a lot harder to spot if we'd even see any at all. :)
DeleteRichmond Park is a nice place to spend the day. I didn't know about the view of St Paul's, that's so cool! If you are in Richmond, I'd also recommend a visit of Kew Garden, one of my fave London parks.
