To Market, To Market: To the Wonderful Market of L'Ilse-sur-la-Sorgue

Along with drinking all the rose to exist in Provence, our main goal was to visit the famed Sur-le-Sorgue Sunday market. Even Valerie had asked if we were going.
Bright and early for a Sunday morning after our delicious breakfast, we caught a ride to our 9am train (the only one from Avignon) to L'Isle-sur-le-Sorgue. This time we arrived just as the market stalls were setting up and we began our wandering way through the town.

The Sunday Market, which was started in the 16th century, runs throughout most of the town and sells everything from crafts , souvenirs, to antiques and food/produce.

We took full advantage of the food options and picked up items to have for dinner that night, picnic style, back at the ranch. Although it was a bit rainy, it was a  lovely day. We had a crepe lunch (with wine of course) before meandering our way back to the station and catching the next train Avignon.

This market only runs on Sundays, but do bear in mind train times there from Avignon were very limited. That said it was close by (20 mins to the city centre) and cheap to get to at€4.60 return.

Wandering L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, Provence

Many people's main purpose of visiting L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue is for it's Sunday market, which comes highly recommended, but don't forget to wander off the market route and enjoy wandering the narrow streets of this market town. I found myself bobbing my head up and down as I tried to see every stall and all the interesting building facades. We criss crossed over little bridges and admired the watery beauty.
The sporadic rain  couldn't dampen our spirits as we strolled, explored, and enjoyed a leisurely lunch and several stops to quench our thirst with a bottle of rosé (or 2).

We took the evening train back to Avignon that evening and enjoyed a picnic supper at Mas de L'Isle of our food haul from the market.

Fun travels!
