Doing a little research prior to our 3 day Salt Flats tour in Bolivia, the Train Graveyard just out side of the city of Uyuni sounded like an interesting first stop on our tour.
I was intrigued by the idea of all these abandoned train carriages abandoned in one area. It was so much more eerie than I was anticipating. Even with the crowds of tourists there for all the same purpose--photo-op!--there was a quietness there.
Started in 1888, the original intention was to make this region a railway hub believed to boost the Bolivian economy with strengthened transportation. It was never completed and eventually the imported British trains were left to decay in the harsh salt winds of the Andean plains.
Definitely a place you have to see for yourself, but I'm glad it was part of bigger tour and not a destination on it's own.
Don't miss a post!
