A Smorgasbord at Smushi

I recently visited Copenhagen. I had no expectations of this city and upon arrival I was smitten with this city. As time progressed and I walked the streets of this quiet Scandinavian city I fell in love just a little bit. It's unassuming presence warmed me and I like it's tranquil beauty, discovering it mostly hidden along canals and down side streets. 

The food however, I wasn't too thrilled with what I encountered on the whole. I don't blame the Danish food, I feel like we might have poorly selected our restaurants during our stay. That said, one place did stick out above all the others as interesting, delicious, with an nontraditional take on traditional food (which has become my quest to discover whilst travelling). 

Welcome to the Royal Smushi Cafe.

On our second day of getting caught in the rain (hello summer in Denmark, we were told) we decided we needed a warm up and a treat in the form of smorgasbords and cakes. At our first look around this place was girly and whimsical and all things sugar and spice. After we found a table in the very crowded cafe and placed our orders we took a closer look around and were taken with the details of the space. Not only is the Royal Smushi Cafe a lovely place to eat, it was also a store that sold it's whimsical decor. 

We each ordered 3 items off the smorgasbord menu; a traditional Danish food item usually consisting of an open faced sandwich served on rye bread. But at Royal Smushi Cafe, their smorgasbord is served with a twist. Just look at these amazing creations.

The food at the one place definitely redeemed things in my books and the price wasn't too terrible either, my whole meal was roughly 285 Danish Kroner.
