Le Mas de L'ile: Our Island Oasis

We arrived into Avignon in the late afternoon and I was made giddy by the blue, cloudless sky and sunshine. As u exited the train station my skin prickled with the heat of the sun. I didn't realize how much I had missed that sensation.

Our home for the next few days was a quick cab ride from the TGV station. The hotel was located on the L'île de la Barthelasse, just outside of the walled city. I gasped when my eyes first fell on Mas de L'Ile. I wandered the premises and enjoyed the sounds of birds and cicadas and more importantly not cars.

Our new friend/hotel owner, Valerie greeted us with and made us feel at home. She provided us with a local map and restaurant recommendations.

We stayed in the Poppy Room, which had been subtly decorated with the theme. The beds were plush and comfortable, the washroom was a luxury with its double sinks and rain shower head. The stone walls added to the atmosphere, but made for difficult wifi connection in the 2nd bedroom. Not such a big deal to a normal person, but to this social media addict it was a bit tough. Then I would remember I was in France and all was good.

My one disappointment was that the pool was out of commission. It would have been nice to dangle our feet into the cool water while drinking rose and having some girl chat. But again, not that big of a deal for the time of year we were there.

Being outside of the city meant that we had to hire cabs to get to the train stations or walk and take a passenger ferry across the Rhone river. But being surrounded by so much nature and beauty made it worth it.
Valerie and Laurent were very accommodating to our needs, providing early breakfasts and rides to and from the city. You'd never get that kind of service at a normal hotel!

I would very much recommend Le Mas de L'Isle for your next trip to Provence. Avignon was a good local spot to base ourselves while exploring the surrounding towns.

This is not a sponsored post, I have no affiliation with this hotel. I had a really great time here and looked forward to returning to our home away from home each night and I had to share.

Fun travels!
